Our Story

Our Home

We built our home in a quiet community close to where we teach. It’s a warm, bright, and happy space where we love spending time together. With its open layout, our home is perfect for hosting friends and family. It’s a brick ranch with four bedrooms, two baths, and an unfinished basement—offering plenty of room for a growing family. Our fenced-in yard is ideal for playing, relaxing, and enjoying the outdoors.

Our neighborhood is diverse, filled with families and children from many cultures. When we sit on our front porch with our dogs, Luna and Lucy, neighbors often stop to chat. We see families walking together, kids riding bikes, and friends enjoying evening strolls. There’s a community pond nearby, stocked with fish, turtles, and ducks, surrounded by a walking path that’s perfect for a peaceful walk.

Our Nursery

Our nursery is ready to welcome a little one. We made the decision not to "decorate" it until we brought home the baby and could tailor it to them. We imagine their name in wooden script above the crib and a small bookshelf beside the rocker filled with books to share. The room is a blank cavas, just waiting for a baby to fill it with life.

Our Pets

Luna and Lucy came to us as puppies and are sweet, loyal and fun. They are pootons, a mix of toy poodle and coton de tulear. Luna is 4 and Lucy is 2 and they are inseparable. They love playing chase in the backyard, long walks in the neighborhood, hiking with their best friends Cody and Cardi, and swimming in Lake Michigan. They are gentle and friendly dogs and love kids! They spend time with us at our schools when our music ensemble has practices, and enjoy all the extra bellyrubs they can get from the kiddos! They love traveling to see family and giving the nieces and nephews all the kisses!

Our Family

We met sixteen years ago during summer music courses at the University of Kentucky. Kathryn was just beginning her first year teaching music at a local elementary school, while Ashley was entering her eighth year in the same role. From the very first conversation, we discovered how much we had in common—shared passions, similar dreams, and a love for laughter. We both treasure our Christian faith and believe deeply that every person is created in the image of God.

From early in our friendship, we dreamed of building a life centered on love, joy, and adventure. Northern Michigan became a place that captured our hearts with its quiet lakes, tall pines, and breathtaking sunsets. It was there—Up North—surrounded by our closest family and friends, that we promised to walk through life together.

We are happiest when we are outdoors. Whether it’s camping under the stars, hiking wooded trails, biking country roads, or kayaking along a quiet shoreline, we find joy in experiencing God’s creation. At home, we love cooking together—experimenting with new recipes or recreating favorite dishes—and inviting friends and family to join us at the table.

Every evening, after dinner, we take a walk around our neighborhood. It’s a simple routine, but one we cherish. These walks give us a chance to talk about our day, share our hopes, and reconnect. They remind us that the most meaningful moments in life are often the simplest ones.

Our marriage is built on mutual respect, open communication, and a steadfast commitment to supporting each other in every season of life. We are ready and eager to step into this next chapter—welcoming children into our hearts and home—and to fill their lives with love, laughter, faith, and adventure.

More About Us

Having children has always been part of our dream, and for a long time we have imagined adoption as part of our story. As educators, we have dedicated our lives to caring for and teaching children, and we are surrounded each day by big hugs, bright smiles, and all the wonderful emotions that come with childhood. While we deeply love the children we teach, there has always been a strong desire in our hearts to become moms.

We often imagine the everyday moments that make up family life—sitting around the dinner table trying new foods, helping with homework, and decorating cookies together. We picture summer days splashing in Lake Michigan during family vacations, and cozy evenings roasting marshmallows around a campfire on camping trips with friends.

We are incredibly grateful to be part of the lives of so many children in our family and among our closest friends, and those relationships have only strengthened our excitement to welcome a child of our own. We cannot wait to share our traditions, our home, and our love, and to build a family filled with warmth, laughter, and belonging.
